The brief for Park Road, Cowes, was to demolish the existing rear, single-storey kitchen extension and replace it with a new, contemporary, single-storey breakfast/dining extension and W/C, taken out to the full width of the main house with glazed sliding/folding doors opening out onto a new, level threshold timber deck, which was ramped to the front access gate, and with steps leading to the rear garden. Internally, the existing dining room was converted into the new kitchen. At the first floor the existing bathroom and bedroom swapped positions, so that the new bathroom was to the front and bedroom at the rear.

 

This project was nominated for the RIBA IW Design Awards and received Winner for the ‘Small Projects Awards’ 2018.

Extensive alterations to include the demolition of a workshop, garage and conservatory, replacing these with a two-storey side extension providing additional living accommodation.

 

Also included the construction of a single-storey rear extension, to provide a sun room and storage shed.

The brief for Mountbatten Avenue, Cowes, was to demolish the rear of the existing two-story house and replace it with a new, contemporary, two-story kitchen/dining room extension, and at first floor enlarge the master bedroom with a new added ensuite and provide a new bedroom. The new open-plan main living areas to the rear have been opened up with large glazed sliding/folding doors opening out onto timber steps leading out onto the rear garden.  To the front rear extension appears to be a zinc metal standing seam-clad dormer with timber cladding and slot window to the front elevation.

We worked in collaboration with Custom, interior designers and builders, to demolish an existing rear, single-storey conservatory extension and replace it with a new light and airy contemporary, single-storey extension to create an open-plan kitchen dining room with a new utility room to the side, with large glazed sliding doors opening out onto a new, level threshold timber deck, with steps leading to the rear garden.  Large roof lights bring natural light and ventilation deep into the kitchen/dining area whilst the sloping vaulted ceiling create a wonderful sense of space.

We worked with our clients to transform and extend this existing Edwardian property into a contemporary architecturally designed home with larch cladding and off-white renderings. 

 

Inside the open-plan kitchen, and dining lounge look out onto and access the rear garden through glazed double doors.  A gabled roof in the middle of the rear lean-to roof creates dramatic views and a feeling of height in the lounge and dining areas.  The clients are currently finishing off the external hard landscape areas to the front and rear.

We have obtained planning permission and Building Regulations for this 1960s bungalow, with construction beginning shortly on-site, to transform the rear of the house into a stunning open-plan kitchen diner with a new attached rear/side lounge extension.  

 

New timber cladding to the front and rear will refresh the previously dated exterior.

A large rear garden extension to create a new off-road car parking garage with a new terraced decked rear garden which has an area over accessed from the lower ground floor kitchen/diner with full internal renovations and alterations to this three-storey period property, including re-roofing. 

The works restored the historic feel of the property whilst imbuing it with a sympathetic contemporary twist through modern lighting, decoration, and colour palette. 

From the start of the project, we liked the way Sean engaged with us to ensure our vision of what we wanted turned into the practical realities of the build. He was always available to support us when we had concerns during construction or just wanted to talk out a new idea.

Our home is now complete, and we are very happy with it. This was our first major house project, so we relied very heavily on Sean guiding us through each step. Highly recommended!
